Learn from Everyone: The best advice for entrepreneurs, 2023

Running your own business is complicated. In the hum and rattle of the daily grind, it's so easy to lose your purpose or divert from your plan.

As a business journalist for so many years, I love writing about the lessons other entrepreneurs have learned. Road-tested advice like these helps you stay on track, remember what's important, identify new opportunities, and rekindle your enthusiasm for the work.

So do check out this story: "The 30 Best Pieces of Advice for Entrepreneurs," from the First Round Review. Sure it's three years old, but there's a lot of original thinking going on here. Entrepreneurship is evergreen, and I guarantee you'll find some great advice and new ideas worth stealing.

My favourites:

Diagnose your customers’ problems like a doctor.

Look to the horizons to balance your core products with new bets.

Carry storytelling into your sales pitch. (Why? Because stories elicit emotion, and most purchase decisions are driven by emotion.)

How prepared are you for high performers to leave your company?

Strip the word "and" out of your headlines. (It muddles your message.)

Ask your team for positive feedback (not just the negatives).

Know the difference between productive and unproductive self-doubt. (And accept that self-doubt never goes away.)

Keep having customer conversations until you can predict what they’ll say next.

Check out the whole story here.
